Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason in London

London is all about luxury experiences, but the most English luxurious experience of all, is the Traditional Afternoon Tea.

When a friend from my old University came to London for work, she asked me if I wanted to join her to a traditional Afternoon Tea. Of course, this was an offer that I couldn’t say no to. I love Afternoon Teas and besides this is what London is all about. So, I knew it will be the perfect British experience for her. Indeed, when visiting London it is a must to indulge on an Afternoon Tea.

We spent some time researching where we wanted to go. The Ritz was the first thing that popped into my mind, however it was all booked for that busy pre-Christmas weekend. Finally, we decided to try out the Afternoon Tea at Fortum & Mason since I heard it has good reviews and it looked very traditional.

The Afternoon Tea at Fortum & Mason turned out to be the perfect choice for a traditional English Tea. It was held at the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon, at the top floor of the department store. We were offered a wide selection of their iconic English and Rare Teas, along with finger sandwiches, scones, and cakes.

I’m a huge scone lover, plain or fruity, therefore, that was my favorite pastry. I also especially loved my Jasmine tea and the traditional English Battenberg cake.

MY EXPERIENCE

Afternoon tea is a luxury experience and a must-do when visiting England. (See also: 10 Luxury Places to Visit in London). Our experience at Fortum & Mason was excellent; Exactly what you would expect from a luxury tearoom. The atmosphere was relaxed and the presentation was elegant and refined. Me and my friend also enjoyed the friendly service from the staff. Especially, I liked the beautiful presentation of the sweet treats and cakes. To conclude, I would definitely recommend Fortum & Mason for an afternoon tea.

I have yet to try afternoon tea / high tea. It’s not as common in the US, but there are a few cute spots popping up. Hopefully I get to one day because your experience looks amazing! xx
