Dishoom Kensington: London’s Most Popular Indian Restaurant

I was invited over to Dishoom at the Kensington branch to try out a variety of their mouth-watering Bombay-inspired dishes. It was such an amazing dinning experience- from the delicious dishes and drinks to the friendly service and ambience.

Dishoom is a restaurant that I always passed by and was amazed by the long queue outside. After my second visit, I totally understand why Dishoom is so loved by everyone and is well worth the wait. Whether you’re a tourist, a London foodie, or celebrating an occasion- There’s only one place everyone knows they have to go to: Dishoom.

ABOUT DISHOOM

Dishoom is one of the most successful restaurants in London. With five branches over central London and even restaurants in Edinburgh and Manchester- Dishoom is THE place to go.

The award winning restaurant is inspired by the old Irani cafes of Bombay, which were at their peak in the 1960s and have now almost all disappeared. What was so special about these cafes? They brought people together over food and drinks and invoked a spirit of community to the people. Dishoom places itself as an homage to those cafes, bringing diners the flavour of Bombay and the lively atmosphere that welcomes all.

THE FOOD

We had a choice from Dishoom Kensington all-day menu which had a huge selection. We wanted to try it all, as our stomachs wouldn’t allowed it, we chose a few of their popular dishes. I chose a veggie starter that was recommended to me by the waiter- Pau Bhaji – mashed mixed vegetables with a home made bun that was absolutely delicious with a bit of heat but not overpowering.

Also, I ordered Chicken Ruby curry (one of the restaurants most popular dishes) for my main along with rice. Whereas, my fiancé really loved his Awadhi Lamb chops and the sweetcorn with chilli brushed limes.

Our desserts did not disappoint either- the flavour was special and extraordinary, a real treat for the pallet.

Dishoom also offers special drinks that are not-to-miss. Apart for a cocktail during my meal, I also had a Chai Baileys along with my dessert. All the drinks we tried were absolutely delicious.

With such amazing and comforting food and special drinks- It is no wonder why Dishoom is so popular.

MY EXPERIENCE

My first visit at Dishoom was at the Soho branch with my family. They were visiting London as tourists and told me that everyone recommended them to eat at Dishoom. After a wait of 45 minutes during lunch time, we received a table. We were all so pleased with the food and loved the entire experience.

This time at Dishoom Kensington, I loved it even more due to the trendy decor and  lively atmosphere. The service we received by our waiter surpassed our expectations. He was so attentive and patient- helping us choose the best recommended dishes. Apart from amazing food, the Kensington branch also seemed like an a fun hangout place with live music and artists performing at the upper floor of the restaurant.

LAST WORDS

It is not often that I walk pass one of the Dishoom restaurants without seeing a queue of people waiting for a table. They have no reservation policy unless you are a party of 6 or more for dinner. Whereas, for breakfast and lunch it is possible to book for smaller groups. Therefore, if you’re going for dinner it is better to come prepared to wait allowing plenty of time or gather all your friends to come together over some delicious food. Maybe, it is even better as good food is better when shared. The Dishoom Kensington branch was spacious with nice interiors and they also occasionally have live performances there. When we were there they played live jazz and so it made our experience even nicer.
