5 Inspiring Places to Visit in Budapest

sthBudapest has been a destination that truly inspired me to learn more about history, architecture,  and of course, to travel more.

I visited Budapest recently as a part of my 10 days solo trip around Central Europe. It was the last stop of my trip, and I sure saved the best for last.

So why did I liked Budapest so much and why should you visit?

These are 5 places in Budapest that inspired me:

Fishermen’s Bastion Budapest

1. Fishermen’s Bastion:

Fishermen’s Bastion is a terrace with seven towers located on the Castle Hill and overlooking the magnificent view of the city. The Bastion was built between 1895 and 1902 in Neo-Gothic style. The rich history and architecture inspired me as I walked between the towers and took in the stunning views.

New York Cafe Budapest Boscolo Hotel

2. The New York Café:

The famous New York Café is located at The Boscolo Budapest, a luxury hotel in a building that was constructed in 1894. The café’s hall is impressively gold plated and has stunning antique décor, leaving consumers amazed by the interior. The café is famous for being a center for Hungarian literature and poetry. Visitors of the café go back in time with every detail ensuring a sophisticated experience. The New York Café is not only the ultimate luxury experience when visiting Budapest, but also constitutes an important part of the history of the city.

The Shoes on the Danube Bank

3. The Shoes on the Danube Bank:

The Shoes are a memorial in honor of the (mainly) murdered Jews of World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes before they were shot and fell into the river. The sculptured shoes represent the shoes left behind on the river by the people who were murder. This momentum is a famous tourist destination for those who visit Budapest. The reason why it is so widely visited is because of its impact on visitors. Seeing the shoes laying on the bank makes visitors reflect. This place has been very moving for me, not only as a Jew, but also as a human being.

Hungarian Parliament Building

4. The Hungarian Parliament Building:

The Parliament is Budapest is the largest and tallest building in Hungary and one of Europe’s oldest legislative buildings. This place too, is a part of Europe’s very rich history.

St. Stephen's Basilica

5. St. Stephen’s Basilica:

The Basilica is another important landmark in Budapest and it’s easy to see why. The Basilica is the third largest church nowadays. It is impressive-looking and blends perfectly with the city view. I had the perfect viewpoint of the Basilica from my hotel’s rooftop, Aria Hotel, which made me feel very lucky.
